Hannah Hurricane Sanchez from Oblate Clay presents Monoprint Newsprint Transfers. Looking for a magical or new way to decorate your clay surfaces? Join us for a 3 hour workshop that shares the magic of Newsprint Transfers. This is a form of printmaking onto clay that gives variations in the imagery. It will give your piece the look of raw, gritty and broken lines, ghosted images and intentionally imperfect textures and a one of a kind look.
Leatherhard clay slabs and newsprint paper will be provided.
You need to bring hand-building tools including rubber ribs, needle tool, carving tools, brushes for underglaze painting and slip, sponges, bottle tip applicators, small dish for water and a variety of underglaze colors, an apron and hand towel.
What images do you want to transfer to the clay? Bring your reference inspiration or sketches for imagery (such as printed florals, seasonal themes, simplified images of your favorite animals, etc)
Also, bring a box/container/ware board to take your piece home. Firing is the responsibility of the individual.

Set up a pop-up shop of your ceramic wares at one of our favorite locations: EZ's Brick Oven & Grill, 734 W. Bitters Rd. This vendor opportunity is for San Antonio Potters Guild members. You must present ceramics/ceramic art/pottery. You can sell paintings/drawings/cards etc. as long as it's your original work and you also have pottery to sell.
There is no charge to our members. EZ's is offering their space free of charge and asks vendors to hype up the venue prior to the market and during market. EZ's will in turn offer the Guild 20% of proceeds from guest meal orders that mention supporting the guild! So it's a chance to sell your work, promote EZ's and support the guild. The money raised from EZ's contribution will go to the Guild's general scholarship fund. Win win for everyone!
Set up starts at 10am. Please be ready to sell by 11 am.

There is covering overhead, so no tent needed (yay!) and no table fees for members (double yay!) Bring your own table, table cover, and display materials.
If you can't be a vendor, come buy from some great SA artisans.
Join us as we learn from long time ceramics educators and practicing potters Ray Morales and John Nelson. We are lovingly calling this presentaiton "Clay Doctors" since the focus is about sharing the wealth of knowledge gained over many years of practicing the ceramic arts. Ray and John will be here to guide you on a variety of clay topics including best practices in the studio, tips on avoiding errors and insight on fixing mistakes. Ask anything about handbuilding and throwing, glazes, kilns and firing , and more!
This will be a presentation format workshop where you will be encouraged to ask questions. Bring a pot or two that you have had or are having trouble with and Ray and John will have suggestions and share their insight to help you with your issue.
Ray Morales - Ray Morales is a former ceramics student and teacher at the Southwest School of Art.He taught intermediate ceramics for 15 years - after learning the fundamentals, with a steady focus on form and function.Learning from all - teachers, new and longtime potters, he very much appreciated the ready sharing of knowledge.Not being the best potter or thrower, he continually tries to improve and enthusiastically embraces new techniques.
John Nelson -
A charter member of the organization back when a number of artists thought a San Antonio Potters Guild was needed. I have served on the board and chaired the Empty Bowls for many years. My work in ceramics begins with a respect for clay as both material and teacher. Through hand building, wheel throwing, surface design, and firing, I explore the balance between control and discovery—the moment when a form begins with intention but gains its own presence through process, touch, and transformation. As a current ceramic instructor at Road Runner Ceramics, I am committed to helping students build technical confidence while developing their own creative voice. I see the studio as a place of experimentation, patience, and community, where mistakes become information and every piece carries evidence of learning. Whether creating functional forms or sculptural objects, I aim to honor the traditions of ceramic craft while encouraging curiosity, personal expression, and a deeper connection to the “handmade”.
